Brighte does
Direct, on completion
Other federal and NSW incentives (including the Small-scale Renewable Energy Scheme and Energy Savings Scheme) are applied to your job before the loan kicks in, so your total cost may be lower than the headline price.
Discounts of up to $4,000 coming later in 2026. For households earning under $80,000 combined, or eligible concession card holders. Apply for the discount first, then use the loan to cover the rest. Renters may also be eligible for discounts with landlord permission.

“The experience exceeded my expectations. From the initial on site inspection, design and quote through to the installation and handover, the Wollongong SolarHub team Alex, Evan and Matt were excellent. In a few words they were competent, respectful tidy and good communicators. The Finance team also need to be commended for their courtesy and smooth payment process. Well done SolarHub”
FAQs
Is this a grant or do I have to pay it back?
It’s a loan, not a grant. You borrow up to $15,000 and repay only what you borrowed over up to 10 years. There’s no interest and no fees, so the amount you repay is exactly the amount you borrowed. Nothing more.
Can I use the loan for more than one upgrade at the same time?
Yes. You can bundle multiple eligible upgrades into a single loan up to the $15,000 cap. So if you want solar and a heat pump hot water system together, you can cover both in one application.
I already have solar. Can I use the loan just for a battery?
Yes. Battery storage on its own is an eligible upgrade, so you don’t need to be buying solar at the same time.
Can I pay the loan off early?
Yes, with no early repayment fees. You only ever repay what you borrowed.
I rent. Can I get the loan?
No, the loan is for property owners only, including owner-occupiers and landlords. However, renters may be eligible for the separate discount program (up to $4,000) coming later in 2026, provided their landlord gives permission for the upgrade.
My landlord owns the property. Can they get the loan and upgrade it for me?
Yes. Landlords are eligible for the loan. If you’re a renter whose landlord is interested, it’s worth having that conversation with them. The loan makes it much more affordable for them to upgrade the property.
Is there a discount as well as a loan?
Yes, but it’s not open yet. Discounts of up to $4,000 are coming later in 2026 for households earning under $80,000 combined, or eligible concession card holders. If you think you’ll qualify for both, it’s worth waiting and applying for the discount first, then using the loan to cover whatever’s left.
What happens if the upgrade costs more than $15,000?
The loan covers up to $15,000. If your project costs more, you pay the difference yourself. We’ll always give you a clear quote upfront so you know exactly what you’re up for.
Can I use this loan alongside the federal Cheaper Home Batteries Program?
The two programs are separate and you may be able to use both. The federal battery discount reduces the upfront purchase price, and you could then use the NSW Home Energy Saver loan to finance the remaining cost. We can walk you through how they stack when you get a quote.
Is this available in Wollongong, Batemans Bay and Bega?
Yes. The loan is available across all of NSW, including the Illawarra and South Coast regions we service.
