Safety First
A cracked heat exchanger or loose connection can lead to carbon monoxide (CO) infiltration, which is often invisible and odourless.
Our technicians perform a CO test while your heater is running and conduct a gas drop test to catch any leaks in valves or lines.

Energy Efficiency
Ducts that are torn, dislodged, or flattened by years of use (or the local possum!) can send warm air into your roof instead of your living space.
Regular servicing helps detect and fix such inefficiencies so you’re not paying extra for heat that never makes it inside.

Peace of Mind
Taking care of minor issues now can save you from the expense and hassle of a total breakdown when temperatures plunge.
You wouldn’t drive a car for years without a tune-up—your gas appliances are no different.
Gas Heater Health Check & Maintenance – FAQ
What’s the difference between a Health Check and a Maintenance Service?
A Health Check focuses on safety—checking for gas leaks, carbon monoxide, and obvious duct issues. A Maintenance Service goes further, including detailed cleaning, gas pressure checks, fan inspections, and performance tuning.
How much does a Health Check cost?
Health Checks start from $170 and are ideal for peace of mind before winter.
How much does a Maintenance Service cost?
Maintenance Services start from $279 and include everything in the Health Check, plus more detailed inspections, cleaning, and tuning.
What if my heater fails the carbon monoxide test?
For safety reasons, the heater must be disconnected immediately. From there, we’ll walk you through your options, whether it’s a repair, a new gas unit, or an upgrade to an electric ducted system.
Can I clean or check anything myself?
Yes! You can clean your return-air filter every 2–3 months—just vacuum or rinse it gently and let it dry fully. But anything involving the roof space, gas lines, or internal components should always be handled by a licensed professional.
Why is ductwork inspection important?
Over time, ducts can come loose, tear, or get damaged by possums and pests. That means warm air gets lost into your roof instead of heating your home—driving up your gas bill without the comfort.
How often should I get my system checked?
We recommend a check at least once a year, especially if your system is over 10 years old or hasn’t been serviced in a while.
Can I get rebates if I need to replace my system?
Yes, in the ACT—there are incentives of up to $2,500 for eligible households, plus interest-free payment plan options. Some concession card holders may be eligible for up to $5,000 in support. We’ll help you explore what’s available.
Can I get a discount if I decide to upgrade to an energy-efficient system?
Yes—if you’ve booked a Health Check or Maintenance Service and choose to upgrade your gas appliance to an electric, energy-efficient solution, we’ll provide a coupon code that effectively refunds the cost of your service. Just ask your SolarHub sales consultant for the code and apply it to your quote.
